Ayushman Bharat Yojana is a flagship scheme and an initiative launched by the Indian Government to achieve the goal of Universal Health Coverage. It is designed to meet Sustainable Development Goals, which state “leave no one behind”. It highlights the need to move away from a segmented approach to healthcare service delivery and join hands with comprehensive healthcare service. This blog will guide you about Ayushman Bharat Yojana and how to apply for the same.

Components of the Ayushman Bharat Scheme

This scheme comes along with two components; one is Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs), and the other is Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY). Both components work with the similar aim of providing affordable health care to everyone.

Health and Wellness Centre

The Indian Government announced the creation of 1,50,000 HWCs in 2018, which are aimed at delivering services to address the primary healthcare needs of the population in the area. This initiative aims at bringing healthcare services closer to the homes of the people. It is designed to bring focus on keeping people aware and healthy by engaging communities to choose healthy behaviour.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana

PM-JAY was launched in 2018 in Jharkhand by the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India. The scheme aims at providing a health cover of ₹5 lakhs per family for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation to families below the poverty line. The eligibility of the households is based on the deprivation and occupational criteria of the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011. The scheme is entirely funded by the government, and the cost is shared between the central and state governments in a particular ratio.

Features of the Scheme

Ayushman Bharat Yojana is specifically designed for people who can not avail of good healthcare services at affordable prices. It is aimed at covering the entire population with minimum premium. Here are some major features of the scheme:
