The novel Coronavirus pandemic has had a devastating impact on the lives of people in India and across the globe. With stringent lockdowns and social distancing measures in place, people have been forced to stay indoors and cut down on their daily activities.
Amidst this crisis, the Indian government has come up with the Corona Kavach Policy, a comprehensive health insurance policy to provide financial protection to individuals against medical expenses related to COVID-19.
This article will discuss important questions like what is Corona Kavach plan? It will also explore the policy’s benefits, features and the need of buying it.
What is Corona Kavach?
The Corona Kavach Policy is a health insurance policy offered by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). It was launched in July 2020 to provide coverage for medical expenses related to COVID-19. The policy offers comprehensive coverage for hospitalisation expenses, pre and post-hospitalisation expenses, daycare treatment, home care treatment, AYUSH treatment, and ambulance charges.
The policy is available to individuals between the ages of 18 to 65 years and the coverage is available for up to 3 members of the family. The premium is determined based on the age of the individual, the sum insured and the location of the insured. The maximum sum insured under the policy is up to Rs. 5 lakhs.
The policy also provides coverage for the expenses related to COVID-19 tests and the cost of the vaccines. It covers the expenses for the RT-PCR test and the cost of the vaccines approved by the Indian government.
What is the Need of Purchasing Corona Policy?
Within a year, COVID-19 disease had a significant impact on our lives, pushing us to our limits in the worst ways possible, whether physically, mentally, or financially. However, one thing is certain: one cannot ignore their health at any point in life. Purchasing health insurance is one way to protect our loved ones financially in times of emergency. The following are some of the reasons why purchasing a Corona Kavach Health Insurance Policy is a good idea:
- One of the primary advantages of purchasing a Corona policy is that it has a 15-day minimum waiting period.
- Individuals who do not currently have health insurance should consider purchasing a COVID-19-specific health plan due to the benefits offered at an affordable premium and with a shorter waiting period.
- When you purchase a COVID-19 health insurance plan, you do not have to deal with the inconveniences of annual, quarterly, or monthly payments. This one-time purchase ensures that you have medical coverage and are protected in the event of an emergency.
What are the Benefits of Corona Kavach?
This policy provides coverage for the hospitalisation expenses incurred due to COVID-19. The policy covers the expenses for hospitalisation, diagnostic tests, drugs, medical appliances and other medical services. The policy also covers the cost of PPE kits, N-95 masks and other protective equipment used by healthcare workers. Other advantages of this government-sponsored policy are:
- It covers the expenses related to AYUSH treatment, which includes Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. The cost of medicines, medical equipment and other services related to the treatment are covered.
- It also provides coverage for home care treatment, which includes nursing, medicines and other services related to the treatment. Further, it also covers the expenses for ambulance services.
- It provides coverage for pre and post-hospitalisation expenses, which includes diagnostic tests, consultation fees, medicines and other expenses related to the treatment.
- It provides a lump sum benefit to the insured if he/she is diagnosed with COVID-19 and is hospitalised for more than 15 days. The lump sum benefit is given irrespective of the actual medical expenses incurred.
- It also provides coverage for accidental death due to COVID-19. The policy provides a lump sum benefit of up to Rs. 1 lakh to the nominee of the insured in case of accidental death due to COVID-19.
The Corona Kavach Policy is a comprehensive health insurance policy that provides coverage for medical expenses related to COVID-19. It provides financial protection to individuals against medical expenses related to the virus. This policy is a much-needed relief to individuals in India who have been adversely affected by the pandemic.
